Support children to understand their bodies, before overwhelm shows up in learning or behaviour.

What this toolkit is

The Inner Clue Detectives: Educator & Therapist Detective Guide Toolkit is a 64-page Occupational Therapy–informed printable resource designed to support children aged 3-8 years to notice, understand, and respond to their inner clues in educational and therapy settings.

Before children can explain what they need, their bodies often communicate first.

This toolkit supports adults to recognise those early body signals and respond with calm, consistent, body-based strategies throughout the day.

The resources are practical, flexible, and designed for busy classrooms and therapy spaces, with no programs to follow and no complicated preparation required.

What this toolkit focuses on

This toolkit focuses on interoception- the ability to notice internal body signals, such as:

• Wiggly legs

• Heavy eyes

• Foggy head

• Heavy heart

This is not an emotions curriculum and does not require children to label feelings or talk about emotions before they are ready.

The approach is neuroaffirming and trauma-informed, prioritising predictability, safety, and understanding over compliance or behaviour control.

Co-regulation in educational and therapy settings

The toolkit explicitly supports co-regulation, helping adults to:

• Build shared, body-based language across settings

• Respond to inner clues early and consistently

• Support regulation through adult presence, structure, and environmental support
